Autograph manuscript collection, with entries in a later hand on original colored stock pages. Collection consists mainly of poetry, with some prose anecdotes and extracts; several entries pertain to women in history such as: a poem about Cleopatra, attributed to J. K. Hervey, Esq.; an extract of the Journal of Elizabeth, queen of Edward IV (1437?-1492); extracts from a biography of Hannah More (1745-1833), and correspondence to her; an epigram on Eve and the nature of woman. Also includes: poems on childhood, sadness, a military execution, and various epigrams; an excerpt from Lord Byron; several epigrams attributed to H.K.W.; mock epitaphs on a pet dog and an amputated leg; satirical poem on fashionable parties; and a rhyming dialogue between a boy and a Catholic priest about payment for confession; a list of names to remember, including teachers from the 18th street school in New York City in 1880, women in Philadelphia in 1910, and others in Brooklyn in 1909 and Bald Peak in 1932; and a poem on Autumn, attributed to Olive Oliver, 1929.

Hannah More, one of five sisters, taught at her family's school in Bristol, England. She became prominent in London's Bluestocking circle from 1774 onward, and was also a friend of Samuel Johnson. Her work soon moved from poetry and drama to the production of numerous popular religious books and tracts.
